These tubes fit all standard microcentrifuges and cover a
range from 250 µl to 1.8 ml. All tubes on this page are
sold without caps. Most are available in both polypropylene
and polyethylene, and some in polystyrene.
Polypropylene tubes withstand forces to 12,000 x g.
Polyethylene tubes withstand forces to 6000 x g. Polystyrene
tubes will withstand up to 3000 x g.
All Evergreen microcentrifuge tubes are precision-molded
from only premium grade plastic materials. Our stringent Quality
Assurance Program checks each production lot hourly for dimensional
uniformity, tensile strength, and physical appearance.

We
have recently developed in cooperation with Washington university
Lipid Research Center a special microcentrifuge tube for use
in lipid fractionation studies. It is a 1.5 ml polystyrene
tube with a 11 mm high density polyethylene cap. This tube
is completely transparent, a feature that is of critical importance
here.
Using dextran sulfate to precipitate LDL, followed by centrifugation
at 12,000 x g, the HDL is measured in the supernatant and
LDL is determined by calculation. In patients with high triglyceride
levels (up to 5% of the population) the supernatant may be
milky or slightly turbid. If not corrected, this would lead
to falsely elevated HDL results. Polypropylene tubes, though
contact transparent can mask this turbidity.
